An ecstatic, half-insane grin appeared on Yawgmoth's face as he stared at the wounded hand of Sephiroth, for there was something there of more significance to him than the pyreflies....blood, and more important than even that, a sign of weakness.
As he noticed it, Yawgmoth broke into a burst of insane laughter, his voice quickly breaking into a horrible shriek that caused most who heard it to fall to the ground holding their ears. This was short lived however, as he soon stopped himself to speak a simple question, "Tell me Sephiroth, how does it feel to be mortal?", and at the very moment that he finished that simple question he suddenly appeared directly behind Sephiroth, firing a bolt of lighting imbued with unholy energy out of his outstetched finger and at his oponent's back.

Northern Capital - Slums - Under the rubble
Rain awoke in complete darkness. The air was thick, and filled with dust. It was hot. She could hear someone else nearby... Sky! Rain's eyes snapped open, and any muddliness ((does that count as a word?)) in her mind evaporated. The girl's eyes strained to see, but the blackness was all-enveloping. Except--there was a small flash of light--almost like a discharge of energy--that had illuminated Rain's surroundings. She didn't have time to see anything in just that small glimpse, but... there was another light source. A spot of light had emerged from the walls of the rubble "cave," and was producing just enough light that Rain could see her surroundings. Another pyerfly emerged, and then another. They were drifting toward the figure slumped on the other side of the cave. Every time one of the little balls touched Sky's body, they were pulled in, little bolts of power spreading across the form, seeking out areas in need of repair. Withing moments, the entire hollow was filled with animated life stream, and Rain's once-target was glowing extreamly brightly with the shear number of pyreflies surrounding and be absorbed into his body. Up until this point, Rain had stayed sprawled across rubble, her eyes just barely open, so to an outside observer in the previously dim light, she would have appeared still knocked out. Now, Rain allowed herself to fully open her eyes and get up, at least to a (roughly) sitting position. Sky had picked his sabre up, swinging it above his head, knocking loose a little bit of debris, making room enough to stand.
"It's alright. We're getting out of here," Sky said, his voice soft. Was he trying to reassure her? Why? It wasn't as if she was worried or afraid...
Rain simply stared at the man, her expression unchanging and emotionless. She was no longer wide-eyed, and she acted as if the fading glow that Sky's form emitted was as normal as having skin.
[ooc] Note: Rain's lack of apparant emotion combined with her high level of inteligence is probably very disconcerting, and after a while people will probably start to not say things like "don't worry" to her, but since you've just met her, it makes sense. Just know that, without meaning it, Rain generally makes people feel very self-concious, awkward, and stupid.
This lacks a good ending, but whatever... I'm tired... [/ooc]

Northern Capital - Slums
Sephiroth's eyes grew wide as he saw his foe disappear. He tensed, and then felt the impact, the immense energy colliding with his figure. The resistance was astonishing, the mere power of the spell causing his body to fly forward, bounce off of the pavement, and roll again before he finally got his footing again. His clothing had been burned off in a circle on his back, and a small cloud of smoke was rising from the area. His back was slightly red, but it seemed that little damage was done. His wing, however, began to dissipate into nothing.
Sephiroth began to chuckle. "Mortal, huh?" he laughed. "I see now just how little you know!" Sephiroth yelled as he charged at Yawgmoth once more.
Sky stood, bent over like this for a short period of time. After Rain's apparent lack of a reaction, Sky withdrew his hand quickly, glaring at her. He moved his blade from his shoulder with his right hand and brought it back and to the left, the handle joining with his left hand. All of the muscles in his body tensed.
"Damn SHINRA!" he yelled, swinging his blade in a huge arc in front of his body. The remaining debris in his path either were destroyed or crumbled off to the sides, and the light from outside began to flood into the little cave. He placed his blade back on his shoulder and looked back at Rain, anger apparent in his eyes. How he had allowed himself to feel any compassion for a Shinra member he had no idea. He was disgusted, not only with himself but with the girl as well. She had dove in front of the debris in order to protect him, but then gave him such an attitude when he made a protective motion toward her. It made little sense, and he wasn't about to trouble himself with it. He stepped out into the light with one thing on his mind- getting everyone to safety, and quickly.
Sephiroth's blade made contact with Yawgmoth's with blazing speed, but it seemed that Yawgmoth had the upper hand now. Sephiroth's moves seemed sluggish, and it was apparent that he was losing energy. Yawgmoth jabbed forward with his Masamune, and Sephiroth managed to dodge, but not enough. It tore into his right bicep, and as Yawgmoth tore it from Sephiroth's body, Sephiroth stepped backward, grabbing the wound. Blood poured readily from his arm, and his hand relaxed, dropping his Masamune onto the ground. Something seemed off here...
"You're slow, Sephiroth!" Sky said. Sephiroth quickly looked toward where the man stood. He had both hands on his blade and was bringing it crashing down to the ground with amazing force. Anticipating an attack similar to what he had seen before, Sephiroth jumped to the side and narrowly avoided the huge burst of energy that erupted from the blade as it smashed into the ground. However, he wasn't prepared for Sky's second attack. With astonishing speed for such a heavy blade, he maneuvered it into a spear-like battle style. Sephiroth soared through the air, just staring at Sky for a moment. Then the blade seemed to erupt from Sky's arm, flying through the air with amazing speed, the wrap from the handle streaming behind it. Sephiroth spun to avoid direct impact, but the blade tore through his left bicep, and he fell crashing to the ground, bleeding profusely. With the same speed he used to throw the blade, Sky yanked on the wrap and sent the blade flying back into his hand. He adopted his usual stance again and rested the blade on his shoulder.
Sephiroth stood up once more, panting. Both arms were severely cut, and his long silver hair was now covered with dirt, debris, and blood. He painfully raised his right arm, and his Masamune flew back to him with amazing speed. He then glared back at his two enemies, but didn't adjust his stance.
Sky reacted first, jumping into the air and crashing back down upon Sephiroth. He swung twice, and Sephiroth blocked both crushing blows, Sky's blade eventually on the bottom of Sephiroth's. Sky grinned as he pushed his blade upward, easily surpassing Sephiroth's strength. He wondered why Sephiroth had become so weak so quickly- there was no way either of them should have been able to land blows so easily.
"Your back," Sky began, raising his blade up further, "...it's exposed!" he yelled, raising his blade the rest of the way, sending Sephiroth's Masamune above his head. Sky stepped backward and began a swing for Sephiroth's side, anticipating a blow from Yawgmoth to Sephiroth's back. With any luck, they should be able to escape quickly.

Even the extremely apathetic mind, realized the signifigance of the battles climax. This god, this fear entity, this person who should be pitied, this bishonen wierdo who kicks everyone's ass, was weakened, and on the brink of being destroyed. So CJ decided to just watch how things play out. If silver hair was truly meant to be destroyed , he would. CJ sheathed his blade into his back (literally)
Kaijuu, was on the ground a good distance away from the battle. He'd spent a few moments massaging his bruised body, before returning to spectating the battle. The silver hair had lost a lot of steam and seemed to be losing. Kaijuu had no way of knowing who was good, who was evil. No one there had any bearing on him. Sephiroth, was very similar to himself, Kaijuu noticed early on, but darker. Much, Much Darker. Kaijuu couldn't himself, and started running towards the battle, rather stupidly, yelling:
"WAIT"

As, the battle raged on around him, Kane continued to feed his lifeforce into his swords. He had a clear view of the nearest shield generator.
"Sorry guys, I won't be escaping with you today," he whispered to himself. He aimed his swords at the generator. "But maybe I can buy you some more time."
With those final words, he launched the massive blast at the generator. The lifeforce flowed out of him, and as the blast struck, he disintigrated into the blast and disappeared.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Rude saw the blast as it was coming, and screamed "Shit!" just before diving to the ground. The blast tore apart the generator, flinging metal debris everywhere.
As he stood up, he noticed others scrambling about, and the shield was faltering.
"You!" he pointed to a nearby soldier. "Send a message to the other generator crews. We need them to adjust the power configurations to adjust for the loss."
"Sir!" the soldier replied before running off. As Rude watched him go, he wondered how long the shield would hold until they could adjust.

Northern Capital - Slums
[ooc] Sorry about the god-modding, but Yawgmoth hasn't responded to me in well over six days, and I don't want the RP to just sit here for much longer. Yawg and I are good friends, though, so I think I know the inner workings of his character enough to pull this off. [/ooc]
Sky saw the kid from the corner of his eye. He came running out onto the battlefield stupidly yelling "Wait!", as if Sephiroth was of some importance to him. Suddenly, however, it clicked. The kid... the silver hair... was he...
It was too late for them to stop when Kaijuu bolted out onto the battlefield. Yawgmoth had just traded a few blows with Sephiroth, and was now beginning to overpower him. With a huge sideways stroke, he pushed Sephiroth's Masamune out of the way and off to the side. Sephiroth stumbled back a few steps, but then gathered himself up and swung at Yawgmoth with all of his strength... only to encounter the end of Yawgmoth's blade at half-swing. Yawgmoth thrust the massive blade forward with lightning speed, and it tore through Sephiroth's chest effortlessly. Yawgmoth's smile grew wider still as Sephiroth began to slump while impaled on his blade. His immensely bony figure was spattered with Sephiroth's blood now, and he was reveling in it. The pure ecstasy of the battle's end flowed through his body now, and the pure energy associated with it was like a power he had never felt before. This monster, this being who had managed to slip away every time, had finally fallen at his blade!
Sephiroth looked up at Yawgmoth again, smiling widely. Suddenly, the smile faded, and Sephiroth's entire figure flickered. When it slumped over on Yawgmoth's blade, dead, it was obvious.
The man Yawgmoth had killed... was just yet another of Sephiroth's Jenova-infused minions, created stupidly by Shinra. The silver hair on the man was much shorter than Sephiroth's, and that became apparent as Sephiroth left his body and the man's true appearance came into view.
They were stunned. Sky stood there, staring at the man's body, eyes wide and an astonished look on his face. Yawgmoth, however, burned from his very core with demonic anger, no, rage. He viciously ripped his blade from the decoy's chest, and before the body even met the ground, cleaved it in two, rushing straight for the poor, frightened little kid who stood before him. Sky's eyes grew wider still, and he grasped his blade with both hands, preparing to strike Yawgmoth with enough force to blow him out of the way, allowing the kid to escape. He didn't care if it was another one of Shinra's twisted experiments- it was still a kid. The engraved "X" began to glow on his Slasher, and he began to swing it at the ground...
...when suddenly a blade erupted from his side. A pained breath escaped Sky as he fell to the ground, his blade making a harsh clattering sound as it fell to the ground next to him. "Sephi...roth..."
Just as Yawgmoth was about to destroy the kid, an enormous black wing covered his vision. When it moved to the side, there stood Sephiroth- in the flesh. The man he had just been fighting earlier- the same overpowering, wicked presence that was the core of Sephiroth's being. Yawgmoth swung at the monster with all of his strength, but Sephiroth countered the blow, sending Yawgmoth's blade flying above his head. It was torn from his hands and clattered to the ground next to the decoy he had cut down. Sephiroth made eye contact with Yawgmoth for a split second before pounding his feet into the ground and flying off toward one of the few remaining buildings in the slums- the little kid under his arm.
It only took Yawgmoth a second to recover from the encounter. He took off after Sephiroth, leaving his blade behind. The only thought that filled his mind now was the obliteration of his foe- he couldn't allow the man to escape him yet again! He followed a building or two behind Sephiroth as they made their way to the edge of the slums. The bright green barrier flickered in the distance, and one of the control towers and generator exploded. The barrier flickered once more as it began losing power. That was Sephiroth's goal- the weakened portion of the barrier. It was apparent. Was this all planned?
Yawgmoth charged yet another huge fireball and flung it at Sephiroth. Sephiroth looked over his shoulder, and at the last minute flickered out of the path of the huge explosive, appearing again on the building adjacent to the blast. The fireball took out the entire upper half of the building, leaving nothing but a burning ruin. Yawgmoth glared at Sephiroth and adjusted his course as well, and he began following behind Sephiroth once more. This time, he charged multiple fireballs, one in each hand, and threw them at Sephiroth at the same time. They criss-crossed in the air, each arcing in their own way, before they both came at Sephiroth from both sides. This time, Sephiroth stopped on a dime, and at the last moment tumbled backwards toward the previous building. While still in the air, flying at Yawgmoth with has back facing him, he planted his foot in the center of Yawgmoth's chest and pushed off of him, flying straight for the upper portion of the section of barrier in front of them. Yawgmoth was knocked down, and as he struggled to his feet, Sephiroth raised his blade toward the barrier while flying with horrifying speed toward it. Yawgmoth looked up, but could only watch as Sephiroth and the kid flew toward the barrier, out of his reach. Sephiroth's Masamune, this time the real one instead of the replica the decoy carried, collided with the barrier at its tip, and Sephiroth's speed was reduced to almost nothing. Still, his massive blade's tip managed to force its way through the barrier and suddenly, with his characteristic flash of green light, Sephiroth blasted through the barrier- a huge hole created in his wake. It sealed up behind him just milliseconds after he floated through it.
Northern Capital - Slums Edge
Raikou and KOS-MOS barely saw it because of the speed, but once it had finished, it was clear as day- Sephiroth had just broken through the barrier and was right above KOS-MOS' head. KOS-MOS immediately assumed a battle stance and summoned her triple-barrel gatling gun to her right arm, pointing it at the malicious figure floating just a few feet above her and unloading at it.
Sephiroth just smiled as he and the boy disintegrated into a green light and disappeared, well before the bullets made contact with them. KOS-MOS stopped firing when they were no longer visible.
[ooc] They teleported. They're not dead. =P [/ooc]
Raikou watched the scene unfold, astonished. Did stuff like this happen on a routine basis around Sky?
He whipped around when he heard someone walking from behind him. It was the demon that Sephiroth had buried in a building just moments ago. He simply approached the barrier, paying no attention to Raikou and saying nothing.
Northern Capital - Slums
Sky's breathing was erratic. He had managed to pull himself to his knees by using his blade for support, but the wound had taken a toll on his body. He felt the blood seeping out from his side and down his body. He didn't dare to look down- he knew he was standing in a huge pool of blood. He didn't know how much longer he would last... and began to think that he wouldn't escape the city.
Suddenly, he saw a bright blue glow from the corner of his eye. He turned his head weakly to look at it, and saw them immediately- it was Payne and Odin. Payne rushed over to Sky, saying something, but Sky couldn't hear it. His vision began to collapse around him, and he felt his grip on his sword weaken. He felt his hand run down the flat of the blade, but never felt himself hit the ground.

Odin sweeped his massive hand down and grabbed Sky and his mighty sword, throwing him over his shoulder. He stuck the sword in his belt next to his own legendary sword and kept running with Payne. Odin saw the barrier before him.
"No...we're too late. We're all too late! Were our efforts in vain?"
Suddenly, Odin saw the girl: KOS-MOS. She had weakened the barrier. There was still hope! Odin changed course and headed for the weakened barrier.
Genji pushed some of the rubble off of him. Apparently he had blacked out. He couldn't believe what had happened. Odin and Payne ran by as another demon chased down Sephiroth. What was going on? He tried to move, but every joint ached.
"What happened...that wasn't that powerful of a blow...did Sephiroth really put me through that much stress when fighting?:
He pried himself up with his Muramasa and then sheathed it. He started a sort of "limped" run after Odin. He was in no condition to fight now that pain and fatigue set in. Plus, Sky was with Odin and they were heading for the exit. Genji liked that idea.

Throughout everything, all of the personal battles, witty banter and astounding attacks that would've destroyed lesser people, Artemis did what no one else would: held off the endless streams of soldiers and psychos. Alongside Appollo, Hanshi and the Tel'Sindavathar, of course. Without mercy they killed any unfamiliar face that came at them, even keeping track of exactly how many they individually got. Whoever had the least kills when this was all over owed everyone a round, and none of them wanted to be that person.
While externally, she was completely calm and collected, the perfect killer, even joking as she mindlessly killed her enemies, internally, she was terribly conflicted. She knew where they were heading, and she didn't like it. Her father would be there, in all of his condescending glory. Mother she could handle, being the reserved, quiet elven wife that had once been glorified many a millenia ago when she'd married, but her father was a whole other story.
With every fiber of his being, he despised what she'd grown up with, the compassionate and despicable humans morals and methods. "Such blunt, disgusting creatures," he'd once said, scowling at a drunken swordsman that passed by the pair as they headed into town. Even as a youngster of only six, his words had confused her. What was wrong with exploring the whole world, with caring about everyone outside of your community? As far as she was concerned, the world Planet was a single community, and they should all care about what they were doing to each other.
Now, of course, she knew better. Their enemies didn't care about her life and, because of their lack of respect, she refused to care about theirs. If they wanted to fight her and degrade her, then they were in for the shock of their life when they ended up choking on their own blood. She wasn't about to die just because damned elven values that meant nothing in this changed world meant something to her father. He was too old as it was, stuck in the times he'd grown up in seven thousand years previous. His ideals may have been all good and well then, but now was different. Things were no longer so insular; people dared to leave their villages and fight for their beliefs.
Of course, there was the small detail of her vampirism. As she licked a spattering of blood off of her lips, she imagined how her family and friends would take it. Not well, that was for sure. It was a taint that none of them had expressed desire to even see, and she doubted they'd be thrilled if they knew she'd joined the ranks of such a vile race of beings.
Not that their opinion mattered. She hadn't spoken to many of them in decades, and no words had been exchanged between she and her father since she was seventy-five. Being one hundred and sixteen now, it hardly mattered to her anymore.
Driving six arrows into two separate soldiers' faces, she grinned despite her mask of cold indifference. She was going home.
I stab n00bs. In the face. With herring. PH33R ME!!!1!!11!one!1

It all happened so fast to kaijuu. First, the man he tried to save was struck down, and then he changed, leaving kaijuu somewhat bewildered. Than the man returned, and before kaijuu knew it, the man was a carrying him off, and he found himself in the middle of the battle he was watching. He honestly felt like crying, but he was too scared to move, too scared to think straight, too scared to do anything at all.
CJ was a great appreciater of irony, and none of the irony of this situation was lost on him. As it turned out, they killed some random nameless guy in sephiroth's guise, and than the silver came back and grabbed another silver hair. It was sort of funny, except that the mood of the whole situation was the direct opposite. Than the silver hairs were gone.
CJ's life was meaningless, so he waited to see how everyone else would react, before leaving/helping/hampering/other.

Rain was surprised when Sky suddenly got very mad, cutting away the rubble above them and then practically jumping over the "wall" of pieces of cement that surrounded them. When he suddenly screamed, "Damn SHINRA!", she started, and, slightly puzzled, climbed out after him. Within moments of her exit, however, she was rushing toward Sky. He had just been stabbed vigorously by Sephiroth, and then Sephiroth had fled, grabbing a boy with silver hair and wing before he left.
Just before Rain reached Sky's limp form, she saw two men lean over him, one with a gun and the other one - a giant - picked Sky up, and ran toward the barrier.
Rain did not know the motives of these new people, but she could not risk losing Sky after all this. After chasing the pair several blocks, Rain whipped out here spare pistol, letting loose a warning shot over the giant's shoulder. The bullets whizzed past the man's head, burying itself in the glowing green barrier and then dissolving in a flash of white light. Simultaneously, she yelled, "Stop right there! Put the man you are carrying down! This is an order! If you fail to comply, you will be executed!"

Northern Capital - Slums Edge
Payne's eyes grew wide as he saw the bullet fly just past Odin's head and crash into the barrier. The woman who fired the shot seemed to be some sort of authority in the city, most likely an agent for either Shinra or the government, and that was bad news. He didn't think anyone would be able to handle another attack- they had been fighting without rest for so long, and everyone was about at their breaking point. Even he was starting to lose strength, the surging energy in his body threatening to either burst or drain completely.
However, someone reacted. Payne "felt" it before he actually noticed it. Raikou had disappeared completely. He heard something behind him and spun around. There stood the agile thief with both blades drawn, one at the woman's throat. He had shoved the arm that carried the gun aside and held it down with the flat of the other blade. He stood there, grinning at her. Great, he thought. As if we need another fight...
"Raikou."
Raikou's eyes grew wide, and he hesitantly looked over his shoulder. Sky had turned around to face him, and was leaning on Odin for support. His wound was serious, but Sky wouldn't allow himself to become useless.
"It's fine," he said, addressing both Raikou and Rain. Raikou glared at Sky, and then returned to his pervious position directly in front of the barrier, with Denkousekka's presence easily noted.
Sky looked at Rain now. "I don't know who you are, what you're here for, or what you want," he said. He pulled himself to a standing position, quickly grabbing his blade from Odin's belt. He quickly buried the tip in the ground and used it for support. "We're leaving. If you interfere..."
"Stop wasting breath and blow this thing up already," spoke an impatient Yawgmoth.
Sky looked Rain in the eyes. He couldn't tell what she was thinking. She seemed cold and indifferent, barely showing any emotion at all. But something told him that she wouldn't attack. At least, not now.
The barrier glowed, its pure energy flowing freely between the guard towers. Despite one of the generators being taken out, the barrier managed to keep itself online, the span in front of the Rebels connecting between two guard towers a good distance apart. The guard tower to their left was nothing but a smoking ruin now, several pyreflies floating up around it. Payne looked at the ruin, frowning, but said nothing.
That energy... someone's last wish...
As if on a cue, Artemis, Appollo, Hanshi and the Tel'Sindavathar emerged from the streets behind them. While everyone had been wrapped up in their own conflicts, they alone had held off the onslaught of soldiers. Combined with the efforts from Payne and Odin, they made it possible for the rest of the group break through the Shinra's trap and to the barrier. It was disheartening, though. Despite all of the damage they had done to this horrible Shinra creation, it still stood, strong as ever. However, there was a small glimmer of hope. Sephiroth had managed to break through the barrier single handedly, and there was no doubt that the combined strength of all the Rebels gathered now could overpower the barrier. But still...
One look at Artemis told Sky the story- they were almost out of arrows, and the entire group looked to be worn out. It instantly clicked. He smiled a bit.
"I never change, do I?"
He then looked to the latest object placed in front of him- the barrier. If they didn't make it through this thing, they'd all be trapped here, and all of the fighting thus far would have been in vain. He wondered how long Vincet would hold off the swarm; it was obvious that he hadn't gone all out, for they hadn't seen any of the SOLDIERs of First Class ranking come after them yet. They had seen a few scattered here and there as captains, but Vincet had an entire army of their quality at his disposal. He wondered just why he was letting them survive.
"Everyone's... not here," Artemis said painfully, interrupting his thoughts. Sky quickly looked about himself, and it sunk in.
"Kane!" he exclaimed. "We left him behind?"
Payne sighed. "He must have gotten away from your group during the fighting. But thanks to him," he said, pointing at the destroyed generator, "we might just have a chance to get out of here.
Sky quickly turned to Payne. "You mean he--"
"Enough of this meaningless banter!" yelled Yawgmoth. "Blow it up already!"
Sky looked at the ground, but said nothing.
"If my calculations are correct," came a muffled KOS-MOS, "striking the barrier in this focused area while simultaneously draining energy from the closest reactor will significantly reduce its strength and overall capacity."
"Then what the hell are we waiting for!" yelled Raikou.
"...however," KOS-MOS continued, ignoring the terribly rude thief, "it would not successfully destroy the barrier and would result in meaningless death."
The wheels in Sky's mind turned frantically. There must be a way!
"Can we destroy the generators?" asked Payne.
Sky shook his head. "That'd take too much time."
"Well, we can't drain it again," Appollo said.
Yawgmoth yawned. "Then overload it. Make it explode."
Sky smiled a bit. Yawgmoth and explosions... all the time...
"That idea... might just work," Payne said.
"What?" Sky questioned. He seriously doubted they could overload the barrier, which already was functioning at a low percentage of its maximum output.
Suddenly, Payne drew in energy from all around him. The blue tendrils of energy came forth again, coming from the ground and connecting with his body. The pressure of the energy was tangible, and it felt as if a great weight was placed upon everyone's shoulders. Then came the wind, whipping through everyone's hair and flying at Payne. He extended his arms out in front of him, placing one hand on his gun for support. His movements were blurred by the massive accumulation of energy. Again, Payne felt as if his whole body were about to rip apart at the seams. KOS-MOS looked on, observing, but saying nothing.
"KOS-MOS," Payne began, "start draining from the closest reactor."
"Understood," KOS-MOS replied. "Using the power from the reactor will increase the output of my weaponry by 15%."
Sky was troubled by this. How could they possibly overload the barrier by drawing power FROM it?
Northern Capital - Shinra/Astolorian Government HQ (Inner Facility)
The SOLDIER swarm was prepared hastily, but consisted of the best trained members in all of Astoloria. The group had been assembled by Grand Maester Vincet himself, but he was unfit to partake in the battle at the moment. Instead, he sat in his office at the core of the facility, deep in thought. Sky hadn't escaped; he could feel his presence still. And yet, somehow, he knew his forces wouldn't be able to capture the warrior, or even any of the Rebels in the city. Deep down, he knew this effort was futile. And with every loss to the rebels, his credibility was damaged, and his supporters would begin to doubt his ultimate fighting capabilities.
A rude Shinra employee burst through the door, interrupting his thoughts. However, he had an important message:
"Sir, power from generator four has been completely pulled offline!"
Vincet's eyes grew wide. He whipped around in his chair. "What?"
"In addition, a large power spike has been noticed in generators five, six, and three!"
"What the hell?" Vincet stood up, pulling his slasher out from under the desk and shouldering it. His figure was menacing as ever, even with the bandages clearly noticeable.
The employee put his hands in front of him. "M-My lord!"
Vincet's face was contorted with rage. Those damned imbeciles! "All troops, proceed to generator four! Stay a distance of at least one quarter of a mile away from the generators at all times and prepare for an all out assault!"
"S-Sir!" the employee said. Suddenly, Vincet disappeared, and the employee heard his clothing rustle. He turned around just to catch a glimpse of Vincet's boot as he Flashed his way to the outside of the facility.
Northern Capital - Slums Edge
Payne screamed, feeling the intense pain now as the energy began rapidly leaving his body and being replenished with the same intense speed. His gun fired huge bursts of blue beam energy at the barrier in front of them with quick succession. KOS-MOS eyes glowed incredibly brightly as she was pumped full with intense energy from the generator. Without a doubt, the reactor would receive such immense damage that it would take months to repair.
Then, as quickly as the attack started, Payne's attacks became less and less powerful, and he started to take more time between attacks. Sky noticed the barrier starting to regain some strength. Payne responded to this, however, by storing energy longer and blasting the barrier with more and more intense energy. The green glow had changed to a bright yellow one now.
"NOW!!" he yelled. At that very moment, KOS-MOS cut her link with the generator. It all made sense to Sky now. If she were to stop draining energy from that generator...
Payne fired an overpowered blast into the barrier at the same time. His arm snapped backward afterward, and he fell to the ground, unmoving.
The power in the generator skyrocketed. Both Payne and KOS-MOS combined attacks would have been enough to knock the generator offline permanently, but that wouldn't get them out of the city. However, the Shinra's own stupidity would be what guided the Rebels to freedom. The countermeasures put into place by the SOLDIER captain inside the tower caused the generator to overload at an incredibly accelerated rate. All at once, its core experienced a meltdown and the entire tower/generator complex exploded.
When the dust settled, Sky saw that the barrier was still online. However, the generators around them were starting to undergo the same process as well- it was going to be a shockwave event. He grasped his sword tighter and prepared for the blast.
Northern Capital - Inner City
Vincet had a front row seat. Their tactics were amazing, simply amazing. The generator had not only been taken offline, but had melted down as well. It was a fantastic show of firepower- each generator on either side of the phenomenon exploded, one after another. The Northern Capital became nothing more than a City surrounded by a ring of fire.
Sky would pay for this, Vincet swore.
[ooc] The barrier is now offline. There was a huge explosion, so your characters may be a bit stunned. Payne has collapsed, but is still breathing. Based on past events, most likely Odin will carry him to the escape vessel. Now that the barrier is down, it's incredibly obvious where to go. The Shinra ship is beached not too far from the City, and there is a small group of Rebels rushing to great the escapees.
However, Vincet's troops are right behind the group.
Basically, I need these things before I can wrap up this part.
1) Reaction from Rain. Decision to go with the rebels on their ship or to stay behind.
2) Reaction from CJ.
3) Reaction from Odin. Odin should probably take Payne, as nobody else can probably fight while carrying someone- Odin probably could.
Just make a blind dash toward the Shinra vessel. I'll handle the boarding process (if you don't mind me god-modding a tiny bit =P), so just get as close to the vessel as possible. [/ooc]

There was an impressive display of fireworks/explosions, and this barrier thing everyone was so hung up on was taken care of. Silver hair was gone, soldiers were popping up generally everywhere, and now there was a distinct mood of finishing this whole event off.
CJ's core philosophy in life was summed up in the phrase "there's no point in rushing, if you're going nowhere." Now he had somewhere to go, and by the looks of things, he should be rushing like hell. Not that he was worried for his safety, but he ran towards the shinra ship as fast as he could, primarily to make sure he didn't miss anything good.

The young man withdrew his blades reluctantly, and retreated back near Sky. Rain had never really been worried, as her "flash" ability would have allowed her to escape with no trouble whatsoever. It was obvious now, though, that these people were Sky's allies, so she put her pistol away and watched uneasily as events unfolded.
____________
As the first reactor began to melt down, the SOLDIER "flashed" several meters forward, just behind Sky, dropping low to the ground to prepare for the shockwave.
____________
Rain got to her feet as the dust cleared. As she began to brush herself off and survey the damage, there was a sudden burst of static in her right ear. The fighter's hand snapped to her ear, immediately finding the volume and channel controls on her radio.
"~~~~~~~~amn!~~~get dow~~~heir now!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~urround them, or th~~~~~~~et away!"
She shut the transmitter off then. She knew what was happening. Vincet was comming, dispite the fact that she had not given such a signal. She technically had higher command of Shinra troops than he, Vincet could be very persuasive, even without the bogus title of High Maester. She could only hope that his newly-mustered army of First Class SOLDIERs would be more loyal to her than they would to him. Rain wasn't sure.
Rain said camly, "Sky, Vincet is coming. He has gathered and army of some of the most powerful SOLDIERs in Astoloria. Go. Now. If you can get to your transport quickly and leave, I think I can hold off Vincet's army long enough for you to get away. We'll meet again."
Rain stepped away, and stood patiently, waiting for the Shinra swarm to arrive.
[ooc] I'm not really sure how I'll get Rain to Iri (or if I will, but this'll work. Do you want to do a collab with the Vincet-SOLDIERs-Rain conversation, Sky? [/ooc]

After the dust settled, Odin was glowing white and pinkish. He used his Guard technique to shield the fallen Payne. His cape billowed in the wind and finally fluttered to a stop. He knelt down and plucked Payne from the ground and set him on his shoulder.
"We've got to leave, Sky. Now. All we've done is fight and kill. These soldiers are endless. Fighting them will only weaken us. I say we head for retreat, with the more able warriors helping the wounded rather than fighting off persuers."
Odin bounded for the gate. His grip on his lance was tight so that blood trickled down.
"Hey, red man, do you think you can make it? You look like you're in pretty rough shape, but I can't carry anyone else."
"Yes...I'll be fine..."
Genji staggered. He could barely walk and was getting light headed. All of the reprocutions and side-effects of his battle with Sephiroth were hitting him all at once. His powered up state didn't negate the damage, it merely delayed it.

Northern Capital - Slums Edge
Sky's eyes grew wide when Rain explained the situation. She was going to stay behind and hold off the Shinra swarm. He started to say something to object to her but Artemis glared at him and Sky remained silent. He then looked toward the land surrounding the capital, perhaps a mile stretch, that they had to cover before they could even think about relaxing. He switched his grip on the handle and, with much effort, tore it from the ground and brought it back onto his shoulder. The blade landed with much more force than it usually did, but Sky managed to support both his own weight and the weight of the sword. Without saying a word, he withdrew his arm from his robe and began to run.
Before he even took one step, the rest of the group reacted. The Tel'Sindavathar rushed forward, taking the lead immediately. Raikou was second to react, quickly passing the group of elves with Denkousekka. KOS-MOS was next to react, scooping up the injured and unconscious Cloud in one arm and firing a shot from her cannon into the air with another. She then took off running, and when she caught up with the Tel'Sindavathar held to the rear of the group.
The SOLDIERS all came pouring out of the alleyways at once. They had been there for some time now, waiting for the blast to clear. Now they were a swarm- each one carrying a lightweight but incredibly dangerous cone-shaped lance. Artemis looked back one more time, glaring at the oncoming hoard, before running after Sky (who was quite easy to catch up to). She remained in the very rear with him, for his weakness was incredibly easy to spot.
The small group of Rebels that had left the ship saw the shot from KOS-MOS' cannon, and quickly reversed direction and headed back toward the ship, full speed. Raikou flew by them at twice their speed, but said nothing. His one focus was to get to Iri. If any of the SOLDIERs even saw him, he'd be dead for sure. He was wanted for more than just thievery.
The SOLDIERs' numbers seemed to be multiplying. Soon, an army almost the size of that gathered during the attack on Mako #10 was gathered in the city and were all rushing for the opening in the barrier. They rushed forward without stopping, and almost seemed to ignore Rain's presence.
Rain turned to face the onslaught of SOLDIERs. As the first ones rushed past her, she scowled, and, barely moving her mouth, uttered one word, "Halt."
A few of the fighters around her heard Rain's orders, and skidded to an awkward stop. Others stumbled around them, and yet more slowed, seeing their fellows' actions. Rain waited patiently for the disturbance she had created to be noticed. She knew it would be; her command had by now stopped the entire front line of SOLDIERs.
It came. Every SOLDIER in sight stiffened slightly, then turned toward her. Most then took off again toward Sky and his companions, but at least thirty raised their weapons.
"I said 'Halt,'" Rain responded, contradicting the order she knew Vincet had just given his men. Fewer of them stopped, and within moments, they were back under Vincet's control. Some of the SOLDIERs were confused, though. Perfect.
"Don't listen to him. I am your commanding officer, not that bastard maester. If you continue to threaten me and pursue the convict, I will be forced to stop you myself."
There was a moment of disorder, while Vincet screamed into the SOLDIERs' ears, undoubtedly threatening them. From her subordinates' body language, Rain knew her time was up. She shot into the air, just as Vincet yelled "Fire." A dozen white-hot blasts of energy converged on the spot the super-SOLDIER had just occupied. Even as the beams cut through the ranks of fighters on the opposite side of the circle, several more blasts followed her into the air. Rain landed just behind a fighter near the outside of the circle focused on her, her tiny pistol in her hand. Whipping around, Rain fired a single shot to the back of the SOLDIER's neck. He was dead instantly.
As the corpse gave into gravity, Rain caught it, using the dead man as a human shield. She would have to be careful now. The SOLDIERs may have made a mistake before, but it was only because they had been surprised. They would not do it again. Rain absorbed several shots with her new shield, firing upon her aggressors from behind it. Discarding the power-drained weapon, she deflected a few physical attacks with a lance, and then knocked down three enemies with one sweep, finally slingshoting the body into a more tightly packed group of SOLDIERs. Ducking down to avoid another deadly lance slicing through the air where Rain’s chest had just been, the super-SOLDIER flipped a weapon into the air with her foot, quickly catching it and standing up, using her legs to provide power for a massive upwards sweep with her newly acquired lance. The weapon cut effortlessly through her opponent, spraying a disk of blood into the air. Rain spun around again, cutting down the first in a new swarm of enemies, then leveled the lance and squeezed the trigger several times. Bright blue beams of death shot through the crowd, creating a small opening. There was her chance. Rain flashed through the ever-closing “tunnel” of SOLDIERs, her weapon trailing behind her, creating a deadly wave of air behind it, slicing open several more enemies. As she neared the front of the swarm, Rain was forced to leap high into the air. There she slowed greatly, becoming visible, but she would still just barely clear the wall front of the group. As Rain begun to come down, she pulled and held the trigger on her weapon, unleashing a rain of destruction upon quite a few SOLDIERs. Slamming into the back of one of the lead SOLDIERs with force enough to shatter every bone in his body, Rain cut away several more and began using a combination of physical and long-range attacks to try to keep the swarm at bay. Even so, the wall of enemies still moved ever-closer. Rain hoped Sky’s group would make it to their transports in time.
Northern Capital Area
Sky was breathing heavily. His whole body ached. Maybe I'm pushing it... he thought. After all, Payne's energy could only have been so effective...
Suddenly, he noticed Artemis slam her foot into the ground in front of her, skidding to a stop. Shifting her weight, she drew and arrow from her quiver and strung it in the bow in one motion. Before Sky could even get himself stopped and turned around, she had shot three arrows toward the Capital.
"What the...?"
The SOLDIER swarm rushed past Rain. She could only take out so many soldiers, and most were afraid of disobeying orders and not going after Sky and the rest of the Rebels. Still, others were afraid that if they let this act of "treason" go unpunished, they would be reprimanded by Vincet. In reality, it was a no-win situation.
The army of SOLDIERs that went after Sky's group rushed forward with frightening speed, a huge cloud of dust rising up behind them. It was a sickening tactic, but ordered by Vincet himself- they were running directly on top of the measly graves the Rebels had constructed for their dead. It seemed that Vincet not only wanted to eliminate them from existance, but destroy any pride the group retained in the process. He didn't just want them to die- he wanted them to die miserably.
Sky squinted into the distance, but said nothing. He had no idea what possessed Artemis to suddenly fire at nothing, but had a feeling that the elf knew better than he.
...and his feeling was right. Without any warning at all, the huge cloud of dust became clear- as well as the SOLDIERs leading it. There were three holes in their front line thanks to Artemis, but it was still overwhelming.
"Shit!" Sky swore, tightening his grip on his sword. Artemis simply shook her head and strung another arrow, firing into the swarm. Sky glared at her. "You can't take them all! Get back to the transport, now!"
She wasn't listening. The SOLDIERs were close enough now that the front line was dodging the arrows, and they flew into the group behind them. They were making no progress at all.
"Goddamnit, listen to me! We don't stand a chance here! We need to retreat NOW!" Sky yelled.
"Idiot, you really think that's still an option?" Artemis yelled back, fed up with her friend's ignorance.
Sky looked at the coming onslaught. Again, she was right. There was no turning back. All he could now hope for was that the rest of the group had gotten to the vessel safely. He reached within his cloak and pulled out three knives, charged them with Thunder, and threw them into the crowd. They lodged themselves in some of the SOLDIERs' sides, but the wounds weren't fatal. In fact, all of the magical energy Sky could summon right now was only enough to stun them for a few seconds. Luckily, that was all Artemis needed to lodge an arrow in their skulls. Nevertheless, they were still unable to stop the forward progress of the massive army. They were within close quarters now, and Sky grasped his blade with both hands. A SOLDIER, slightly faster than the others, sped up and rushed at Sky. Sky jumped forward and swung at the SOLDIER's side. The trained man effortlessly countered the swing, and with enough force to knock his blade aside. Sky stumbled backward, reeling. He fell backwards as his blade fell. Crawling around in the dirt, he found his blade and pulled himself up to a crouching position. When he looked up, the SOLDIER had a huge grin on his face as he gripped his lance with both hands, charging for Sky's chest. Sky could only watch now, his eyes wide.
...as the man's neck errupted with a spray of blood and he fell to the ground, eyes rolling into the back of his head, directly in front of him. Sky looked up again and saw no one. That was, until another SOLDIER's head separated from it's body, and then he only saw him for a second- Raikou.
That idiot...
Raikou danced about, slashing multiple SOLDIERs down, one by one. However, he made a huge mistake- he stayed in the same area for much too long. It wasn't apparent to Raikou, who was moving so quickly his vision was blurred anyway, but it was obvious to Sky. SOLDIERs quickly gathered in a circle around the thief, ready to jump into the fray when his back was turned and he had slowed down to strike another man down. Just as the last man in the circle fell, Raikou began to slow down, and his reaction time was delayed. He looked up at the last second, just as a grinning madman with a lance came barreling down upon him. Suddenly, there was a flash of light to his left side, and the man's tragectory was totally thrown. It took him a few seconds to realize what had just happened, and his savior wasn't too polite about it.
"Get back to the ship, NOW!"
It was the gleam from Sky's Slasher he had seen- just before it crushed into the side of the SOLDIER. He now lay in a bloody heap to Raikou's right. Raikou looked over at Sky, who was focused on the next group of SOLDIERs. He wasn't about to heed Sky's order, and he prepared to jump into the fray just before Sky could react. However, just as he jumped forward, a crushing blow was delivered to his chest. He was knocked back almost a foot and came crashing down on his back. He looked up at the assailant- Sky. He had extended his blade backward, bringing the flat of the giant blade crashing into Raikou's ribcage. Raikou coughed a few times, and then looked up at Sky. Sky glared at him one last time before shifting his grip on his sword and bringing it crashing into a SOLDIER with an upwards swing.
Finally getting the idea, Raikou turned and headed back for the ship. This was out of his league. His one focus was now surviving- the thrill of battle was gone, especially now that he was outnumbered and had a group of almost fifteen SOLDIERs rushing after him, just as Denkousekka's effects were wearing off. NOT good.
Sky slashed through his current group of SOLDIERs with great effort. Although Artemis was doing the best she could, the swarm was beginning to overtake them. He noticed a large group take off after Raikou as he left, but he had faith that Raikou could at least get them close enough to the rest of the fighters on the vessel.
Finally in a break in the fighting, Sky withdrew a glowing materia from his robes, and it shone brightly as he cast a spell with it's power. Feeling the effects of Haste immediately, Artemis turned and ran after Sky, who had already turned and was headed for the ship. If she knew Sky's tendencies with magic at all, the spell would only last for a few seconds. However, it was apparent he was giving it his all. The materia shone like a star in his hand as he ran, and sweat trickled down his neck as he focused all of his energy into maintaining the spell. He was surprising her with the length of the spell, and he made it to almost thirty seconds before the materia began to pulse and finally stop glowing. Although entirely out of energy, Sky didn't stop moving. He kept at it, going right after the vessel knowing that the SOLDIERs were equipped with all sorts of materia as well. It was just a matter of time before they started to use it.
Northern Capital - Slums Edge
Vincet was using flash again and again as he rand through the slums toward where the barrier had exploded just minutes earlier. He was yelling angrily at a SOLDIER, communicating with his earbud radio.
"What do you MEAN they're faster than you!" he yelled angrily, pulling the bud out of his ear and yelling directly at it, most likely deafening the SOLDIER communicating with him. "You are the elite squad of Shinra's army! Start acting like it and KILL THEM ALREADY!"
He threw the communicator at the ground and it shattered into a million pieces. He screamed, feeling the deep rage build inside of him. He flashed forward the last few blocks and quickly jumped over the smoldering heap that was once the barrier generator. He came crashing down on the gathering of SOLDIERs, most of which were dead already.
"KILL THEM!!!" he screamed as he came flying down upon Rain, who barely managed to block the blow with the two lances she had taken up. She was pushed back a few feet, kicking up a cloud of dust as she regained her balance. The SOLDIERs reacted to Vincet's presence and quickly ran off toward the gradually shrinking swarm.
Vincet glared at Rain, and Rain glared back. She saw fresh blood trickling from his previous wounds from the battle with Sky, and figured she was at an advantage here. However, she also had to consider Vincet's immense temper. Although it caused Shinra more harm than good, the anger issues Vincet "suffered" from greatly enhanced his combat ability, thinking of nothing but the elimination of his opponent. As made obvious by the battle with the rebel leader earlier, this was a man who would fight to the death- and beyond.
They stood, battle ready, glaring at one another. Without warning, they both disappeared simultaneously.
Northern Capital Area - Beach
Finally, Sky felt sand beneath his feet, and saw the vessel. It was smaller than he anticipated, and it already was practically sinking because of the immense load. He stopped and turned to look at the oncoming swarm. He had thirty seconds, tops.
Artemis didn't stop running and jumped from the water's edge directly into the vessel. She landed gracefully and, noticing the absence of one her friend's not-so-graceful landings, turned back to yell at Sky.
"Idiot! Get on here!" she screamed. Sky didn't respond. "Don't pretend you can't hear me!"
Sky turned and looked at her over his shoulder. " 'Idiot, you really think that's still an option?' "
Artemis drew in breath to argue, but found herself defeated. She looked about at the water surrounding the boat- they had maybe a few inches of clearance. Even with their current load, they'd be lucky if they didn't sink before getting to Iri's port.
"But I--" she began to protest.
Sky turned all the way around this time. "Go! If you don't leave now, you'll be in range!"
Artemis felt the emotion building up inside of her, but couldn't put it into words. "Sky!" was all that escaped her lips, a simple, weak protest among all of the words floating through her mind. The idiot was going to stay behind, wasn't he?
Then he said it. "They're after me, not you."
Artemis yelled back at Sky, but her words were drowned under the noise.
"FIRE!" Sky yelled as soon as he was finished. KOS-MOS unloaded from the vessel's turret immediately, the "bullets" of Mako energy flying at the hoarde of SOLDIERs. A large number was taken out, but the pilot began to pull away from the beach before KOS-MOS could take out the next group.
Sky gripped his sword tighter, determination building up deep inside of him. "You... will... not... PASS!" he screamed as he brought his blade up and cleaved yet another adversary in two. His muscles burned as if they were being torn in half, and his recovery time was ridiculous. He was only able to catch the first few SOLDIERs off guard before one finally found an opening. Sky quickly blocked the attack, but he stumbled backwards and barely managed to eliminate the man. He bent over, coughing repeatedly, bring up blood again. It seemed his wounds from Vincet had reopened...
Damn... so this is it...?
He fell backwards onto his back, looking up at the oncoming SOLDIERs. He struggled to breathe, bringing in only shallow breaths.
Artemis saw it from the vessel- Sky had fallen over, and one of the SOLDIERs was just about to come crashing down upon him, set on burying the lance in his heart. It seemed as if her body was reacting on its own. She jumped onto the barrel of the turret and jumped toward the beach. Everyone on the ship gasped as the elf jumped ship. It seemed as if she were flying through the air; a huge amount of pent up energy escaped all at once as she jumped. Without thinking, she drew an arrow and shot it at the SOLDIER's chest. It pierced through the SOLDIER just as she hit the water. She never stopped moving, running straight toward her fallen comrade even though she was waist-deep in the freezing water. Within seconds, she had run the distance to Sky, who was now struggling to his feet.
Northern Capital - Slums Edge
"I will not rest until you are dead," Vincet said, his voice surprisingly calm. Rain remained silent, carefully calculating her next move. She had managed to land a few blows on the monster that stood before her, but it seemed as if the bursts of energy from her lances didn't phase the man at all- despite his utter lack of body armor. Suddenly, his blade began to glow, dark circles of energy surrounded his blade. They materialized, and rotated around it, like a sort of insignia. A fait humming sound could be heard. Vincet seemed shocked, looking to the side at his blade. He wasn't in control of whatever was going on.
"It's resonating," Rain said.
"What?"
Suddenly, she disappeared. Vincet looked around frantically, and saw it at the last moment, just barely managing to "flash" out of the way. A huge blast of bright-white energy came rushing through the area, destroying the ground beneath it and tossing up bits and pieces of debris that got in it's way. When the dust cleared, Vincet turned to look for the source, and found it fairly easily among the now clear opening in the SOLDIER swarm. The whole army had stopped moving and stood, staring at the man from whom this huge energy had escaped- Sky.
Northern Capital Area - Beach
All of the noise was gone. Sky stood there, bent over, his slasher buried deep within the ground. He tore it from the ground and attempted to place it back on his shoulder, but instead merely raised it up from the ground a few inches before all of the strength left his body. The blade fell to the ground, and Sky began to fall forward. Artemis quickly jumped to his side and caught him before he smashed into the ground.
"Fool."
Giving the SOLDIERs no time to react, she shimmered away.
Northern Capital - Slums Edge
Then they suddenly disappeared. Both of the leaders of the Rebel army had slipped through his fingers. Again. He simply stared at the spot where they had once been in disbelief. He heard Rain chuckling, and quickly turned to her.
"Damn you!" he yelled as he flashed forward once more, this time finally catching her off guard. His fist connected the side of her head, and she spun around before falling to the ground, unconcious.
[ooc] All of the other rebels got aboard the ship. I didn't have time to write out exactly what happened for each and every one of them, nor the patience to. =P [/ooc]
