At the moment, we lack any real purpose for the groups. Once I open up the dueling area, however, clans will most certainly emerge. Wink

That will actually (hopefully) be included in the next update to the Stats MOD. I plan to have a battle hack similar to what we had on FFHaven. Really, though, we found that the battle hack ended up just being a sort of timer for the battles. XD

But it was fun nonetheless.

What exactly do you mean by "less complicated"? Any suggestions to improve upon it would be really helpful for when I get started. =)

I suppose I could have it automatically grab the stats of the character you wish to duel, and if you're battling random enemies have their stats randomly generated based on your level...

Would that work?

Hmmm... the battle hack was good... I think that there should be a few levels of attacks... but the higher levels should have some other effect... like temporarily decreasing strength/magic, depending on if it was a physical or magical-based attack... I dunno if that would be too hard to code... but the theory would be:

Normal Attack: Does damage according to your strength/magic (like using fire)

Strong Attack: Does more damage according to your strength/magic, but reduces your strength by X% for one post in this thread. (like using fira)

Extreame Attack V. 1: Does even more damage according to your strength/magic, but reduces you strength by X% for 2 posts in this thread. (like using firaga)

Extreme Attack V. 2:Does even more damage according to your strength/magic, but reduces you strength by Y% for 1 post in this thread. (like using firaga)

Note that I think that only one Extreme Attack version should be implemented (probably).

This would make combat more interesting, for sure.

Finally, higher-level characters should have and option to reduce their stats (as if they were lower level), in case they want to fight lower-level characters.

In my opinion, this would make it all way more interesting, though the percents would require a lot of balancing.

EDIT: We may also want to have a way of healing yourself with magic... and concentrating for a turn, in order to increase Strength/Magic for the next post. The Concentration could be one technique, or it could sacrifice one for the other.

EDIT 2: Items would also rock... like a potion that healed a % of HP (instead of a certain amount)... and other stuff, maybe to cure status ailments... but then there would have to be a way to inflict them... Like a materia shop! If, for example, you bought the Fire magic materia, you could choose to apply fire damage (finally, a use for elements!) to your magic attacks, but ONLY magic attacks. I'll post a mock-up picture including all of this, so you can get a better idea of what I'm suggesting.

To start off, though, I would suggest just putting in the three attack levels, and apply the rest later.

EDIT 3: Here's the mock-up I promised... it's really bad, but you can see that one would check the boxes they wished to use, and then post! Parts of it are grayed, because you can't do those things. Also, the "Poster 1" and "Poster 2" boxes would be replaced by the User's Name... and the Materia would be the Materia in your inventory.

EDIT 4: Sorry for all the edits, but I just thought... the "Poster 1" and "Poster 2" things wouldn't work if Stats are automated... but what about having the people who are fighting register their characters beforehand? The original poster could have an extra interface that allowed him/her to determine the "players" before they actually start. Then the forum would go retrieve the stats, and automate it from there. This is all assuming you can get the forum to retrieve things from other posts in one thread... It could search for certain phrases, and take numbers that occured after the most recent occurence of those phrases... would that work? If you have questions about my ramblings, please ask.

Here's what I think.

1. You should be able to duel anyone you want that is an actual character. However, if you challenge, you cannot back down. If you are challenged, you can refuse.

2. There should be a list (maybe in a similar format to the shop) of monsters you can fight based on level. I don't want to be forced to fight someone my level and I shouldn't be denied the challenge of fighting stronger monsters. Make it the player's choice.

3. Add a Speed stat. Then, using the different stats, you should set a minimum amount of damage, a maximum (for regular hits), and a precentage of critical hits which is X above their maximum. This is kind of hard to explain, but really, I don't think it'd be hard to code (but what do I know? =P).

HP: This is your HP which decreases due to damage. It increases when healed.
MP: This is consumed when using magic. Can be healed.
Str: This is the base of your physical attacks. The higher it is, the more damage is done.
Mag: This is the base of your magical attacks. The higher it is, the more damage is done.
Spe: This determines your evasion or chance of dodging an attack.
Item: You may select items from a list that can either heal you or hurt the enemy.

Basically, HP and MP are self explainatory. Then your strength, with the same system that changes it due to posts, you have it change the end caps for minimum and maximum damage. Then set a percentage for 3 damage levels (minimum, maximum, and average). Then, due to chance (which is based on percentage, again), you will use one of those 3.

For magic, it'd work the exact same way, but two things would differ. One, if the user was of your opposing element, you would automatically deal maximum damage. If they were of the same element, you would deal minimum. Based on your spells (which would be another system that'd have to be worked out, again, much like the shop), you would deal more damage. Basically, Fire changes nothing, Fira adds 100 to the damage (no matter if it's minimum or maximum), and Firaga adds 1000. Then with Cure spells, they'd work just like damage spells, but instead restore HP.

Items would be a list. Speed is just a randomizer. The higher the speed, the higher your evasion. Maybe instead of having a chance of hitting, you have a chance of missing. It might make it easier to add Speed into the equation.

That's all I think. Maybe I'm getting too in depth, who knows.

I agree that you shouldn't be forced to fight someone your level, but if, say, Sky wants to fight Abbey, They dont' want Abbey to win just because she has posted more than anyone else, and so, If she wants, she can adjust her level.

I forgot there was an MP stat. I still like the idea of magic and physical attacks being similar, but with a different stat... and I like my system of powered attacks. Maybe MP would go down when a Materia is used? It would go down more or less, depending on the level of your attack.

A speed stat and a miss chance are good, but go further: Make speed Dexterity--it adds a miss chance to the enemies attacks, and a hit chance to yours. These would combine, and make the total miss/hit chance.

Yeah, that sounds good. I like the way you have the battle set up, though I think drop down menus may be more efficient (if you have a bunch of magics, it'd take a lot of room and a limit would restrict people too much).

I thought of drop down menus, but they were hard to represent in an image. Either one would work.

No, I don't like the idea. There's a popup for scanning a member, a popup to view their bio, we don't need more popups.
