Summary of The Fiasco

Artemis consulted her group for information regarding the Rebels. According to them, none of the Rebel leaders had appeared since the explosion. To formulate a plan, Artemis decides to astral project to Sky. Within the first few minutes, everything was fine, but Artemis began to convulse.

Meanwhile, Rude and the Turks were flying to the Rebel Base. Rather, what was left of it. Rude didn't know what he was coming there for, but he soon found out upon a second glance of the crater that used to be the base. Several tons of raw materia lay in the crater, and the Turks quickly salvaged the materia for use by Shinra.

Artemis, though convulsing, had successfully projected to Sky and found him in a highly unlikely place- the cargo deck of a Shinra ship. Artemis found Sky standing in the remains of his chains and shackles, where Kane was still attached to the wall, unconscious. Artemis yelled both of their names, and both of them, however slowly, began to wake up. Kane and Sky both manage to recognize the opaque outline of Artemis' figure and the tone of her voice, and began devising a plain for their escape. They had determined that they had arrived at the Northern Capital and were en route to the Trail del Sol, the government's largest, strongest, and most severe maximum security unit. However, if you were to look beneath the surface, you would find that the Trail del Sol was not a prison- it was a torture center, a labyrinth with death down every pathway.

Artemis offers to send her support group to aid their escape, but Sky is not convinced it will be fast enough. The only way they could possibly escape in time is if they had an entire group of Rebels attack the capital at once, causing enough confusion to retreat. Sky decides that whatever option Artemis and Kane agreed on, one that would spare Kane's life even if it put Sky's in danger, he agreed with. Making quick use of time and resources, he smashes through Kane's chains with his sword.

Meanwhile, KOS-MOS is draining more energy from the Reactor and accessing more and more forbidden databanks. Confirmed by one of the scientists, she had begun reconstructing an incident years ago in her development that went awry and killed several of the leaders of her project. Several of her weaponry options had been destroyed after the incident, but KOS-MOS was recreating the physical objects of her old weaponry again. Within minutes, she had completely drained the reactor's power and it began to shut down. Using every reserve of power left in the reactor, KOS-MOS initiated her own launch sequence and woke herself up. Now free from her bindings, she began her plans for escape, beginning by calmly shooting the lead scientist square in the face and ending with the complete destruction of the reactor and the remaining scientists involved in her project. Without hesitation, she began running toward the Northern Capital, hearing someone "calling her".

Artemis finally came back from her astral projection and stopped having seizures. The group was naturally concerned, and made Artemis think twice about projecting again. After a brief spat with Avalon, Artemis learns that there was a group of rebels near the Northern Capital, called The Knights, a group known from old elven tales that overthrew their destructive monarchy. With newfound hope, Artemis and the others set off to find the location of this Rebel support group to rally their troops and attack the capital.

KOS-MOS' destruction of Mako #3 had far-reaching effects. Mako #3 was almost solely dedicated to delivering power to the Trail del Sol's newly renovated areas. Without the reactor, the dungeon/prison was without power, quickly unleashing a group of jailbirds- almost all of them Rebels convicted of treason and terrorism. With an enraged, knee-jerk reaction, they grouped together in the ranks they knew and without argument or question, stormed the capital city. When the security towers recognized the fast-moving figure as KOS-MOS II and the large group from the Trail del Sol as Rebels, they gathered every Shinra Soldier from the capital to bolster border defenses, leaving the harbor (and Sky and Kane's ship) deserted.

Rude and his group of Turks made it back to the Northern Capital and discovered the entire city in disarray- civilians without power and the military running around frantically. Rude quickly gets things calmed down for fear of the Rebels discovering weakness in their defenses, but wonders if it might be too late.

With increasing fear of invasion from KOS-MOS II and the large group of rebels leaving the Trail del Sol, Shinra takes their last and greatest defensive measures- starting up the new Shinra prototype energy barrier. This barrier created an energy field around the entire city and its harbor, protecting the entire city against any such invasions. However, the quick and rash thinking of the Shirna officers left a small group of soldiers trapped outside the city- cut off from reinforcements and supplies. Doomed to fight outnumbered against this massive force of Rebels, they gathered all the strength they had and prepared to make the first hit in an attempt to quickly dwindle the size of this immense group. KOS-MOS reached the soldiers first, however. The inexperienced group emptied most of their ammunition on KOS-MOS when they saw her charging up a deadly weapon that had supposedly been destroyed years ago. Now defenseless, KOS-MOS fired the large weapon at the group.

By this time, Artemis had already reached the rumored Rebel base and had gathered a surprising number of Rebels from them. Quickly dispatching the group of guards, she and her group began to confront the barrier.

KOS-MOS' weapon decimated much of the small army prepared to fight the group of Rebels approaching. With quick succession and evident combat "skill" (actually cleverly designed battle algorithms), she quickly dispatched many more soldiers before a lucky blow hit her left arm and critically damaged it. Dropping her weapon, KOS-MOS was now surrounded with nowhere to go. However, she fought against the group with all of her strength, and managed to draw herself away from the group to duel just one SOLDIER, who was assigned as a captain of the group. Now, the large group of Rebels was upon them, and the army did not pay attention to KOS-MOS and instead engaged the Rebel forces, though they were highly outnumbered.

Meanwhile, in the outer city limits, Sky and Kane had begun to make their way to the inner city to try and figure out what was going on. On their way the reunited with Yawgmoth, much weaker than he had been six months previously, and CJ- a very mysterious, energetic man with impossible regenerative abilities. Shortly after a few words were exchanged by these old and new friends, Artemis projected to them again, this time without convulsing. Sky quickly instructs her to bring down the barrier, as he receives a strong mental image of KOS-MOS in danger and realizes that they need to help her.

Artemis then leaves Sky, Kane, Yawgmoth, and CJ and goes back to her friends to take down the barrier. Very quickly, a group of Shinra soldiers confronts the group, but Artemis' friends quickly dispatch the groups of soldiers while Artemis focused on destroying the barrier.

Very quickly, many groups of Shinra soldiers found Sky's group, as well as their commander- Sephiroth. While the rest of Sky's group dispatched many of the soldiers, Sky focused his attention on Sephiroth. While he made much headway in finally dispatching this villainous figure (he actually separated Sephiroth from his blade, something that was unheard of), he was unsuccessful as Sephiroth quickly realized that Sky was stronger than he anticipated. Sephiroth sent him crashing into the side of a nearby building and quickly fled, realizing that the group of soldiers outside the barrier was loosing against the ragtag group of Rebels.

Just as Sephiroth left Sky's group, Artemis had finally finished the seemingly unsurmountable task of draining the barrier's energy completely.

KOS-MOS had walked over to the barrier and had begun running scans on it. She quickly noticed that its energy levels were being depleted at an alarming rate, but were still at deadly levels. Regardless of what she had learned, something possessed her to place her hand on the barrier. There were a few very quick snapping and popping sounds, and the barrier shut down with a flash of bright green light. The pressure from the barrier going offline sent a strong gust of wind onto the battlefield. Soldiers from both sides, blinded by the light and being knocked over by the wind, stopped battle for a moment until they could regain their senses. When the dust settled, the Rebels found the Shinra soldiers... gone. The wind and flying debris had flung their bodies everywhere and they lay, bruised and broken, scattered everywhere.

Just as the barrier went offline, a final beam of energy tried to connect between the towers creating the barrier- going through KOS-MOS. Both this immense shock and the gust of wind, she was blown off of her feet and high into the air. She landed in front of a group of Rebel soldiers, blackened and smoldering.

The captains of the Rebel forces began gathering the remaining troops together and prepared to invade the city with new reconnaissance from a mysterious group of Rebels that had made their way inside the capital. This group claimed to have been gathered by Artemis the Elf, who had been missing for over six months and had been assumed dead. Naturally, the capitans were reluctant to accept this reconnaissance, but when the group said that Artemis was taking down the barrier and the barrier broke, they accepted the group's message- Sky and Cloud had been captured in the outer city, and were being held hostage by Shinra and the Astolorian Government. Fueled by new and reawakened anger as well as the adrenaline of battle, they prepared a counterattack.

Kane eyed the Turk closely, ignoring the fights all around him. He was even attacked a couple of times, but never took his eyes off Rude as he quickly deflected the attacks and struck back.

Rude was likewise focused, but on Kane's two swords. He knew fists were of no use against blades. He reached to his belt and pulled out two electrified stun batons. He spun them deftly in his hands, getting a feel for them, then began to step forward.

Kane also charged, and they both met weapons, Kane's left sword deflecting a low stab from the left, while swinging high to the right. Rude blocked the attack, then spun the baton around the blade to hit Kane in the forearm. The electricity coursed through his arm, and he dropped his sword as his fingers went numb.

Rude jumped back, grinning. Kane shook the feeling back into his hand, then grabbed his sword. He had to be careful, those batons were still dangerous, even if they weren't sharp.

The elven trio of women bared their fangs, some more literally than others, as they drew their weapons. The approaching Soldiers marched toward them rhythymically, dust swirling around them and the Captain already shouting orders.

"They have exposed weapons. Lock on and be prepared to fire at a moment's notice." His voice was commanding but young - he couldn't be over twenty-five. Still green. They'd go easy on him.

Appollo made like she was rushing them, causing one to accidentally fire off his gun, striking the man in front of him. The Captain only gave him a harsh glare before returning his steely gaze to the women.

Finally, less than twenty feet from Artemis, the Soldiers stopped dead. The Captain spoke up. "Put your weapons away and we can work this out."

"Sorry, not possible," sneered Appollo.

"Is that so? Will you not reconsider?"

"Sorry," Artemis replied, "but once my friend has made up her mind, it stays that way. I'm the same way."

"As am I," added Hanshi. "I'm afraid we're all quite stubborn."

"Then goodbye, ladies. FIRE!" He threw his arm forward, signalling the men to shoot. Before they could pull the trigget, seven were already dead, arrows, knives and burn scars littering their forms. The other three shot, but their shots were wild from fear. These women weren't mere mortals. Before their thoughts could progress any farther, they were dead, leaving the Captain.

He lunged at Artemis wildly, all training forgotten. Only the survival instinct remained. Not able to notch an arrow quick enough, she opted to throw out her arm as to release a kunai knife tucked away in a cloaked wristband. As her hand flew out, her green aura, which had died down in the fray, burst up and funneled to her hand. It traveled for a fraction of a second before connecting with his face and exploding in a green fireball. He fell back, dead.

The green aura faded once again, slightly dimmer this time around. Artemis Just stared at her hand.

"What the hell?"

Northern Capital - Detention Center

Cloud had no time thank Payne for busting him out, for as soon as he stepped out of his cell he was on the move again, Eden following close behind.

"Halt!" yelled a guard, jumping out in front of Payne with is rifle drawn. Surprising to Cloud, Payne did not fire his weapon, but instead continued running at the guard, a mad look in his eyes. The guard's eyes grew large, and he lifted his rifle and pointed it at Payne's chest. Before he could squeeze off a shot, however, Payne had clubbed him in the side of the head. The guard fell, unconscious. Not wasting a second, Payne jumped over the man and continued running toward the exit.

Artemis seemed suddenly mesmerized by her hand, which had lost any traces of a glow. Appollo leaned in, taking a good look herself.

"Well, that was certainly interesting," she replied, slightly amused. "Remind me not to piss you off." Hanshi rolled her eyes and pulled Artemis' hand away from her.

"Come off it," she growled. "We've got bigger fish to fry right now." She pause, looking at Artemis' glazed eyes. "Are you listening to me? Snap out of it." She waited a moment before slapping the woman with tremendous force. If she'd hit any mortal that hard, they would've been dead instantly, but Artemis' head only turned to the side, cheek turning a vivid shade of red. Her eyes seemed to come into focus, aknowledging the situation.

"What the hell was that for?"

"I had to wake you up somehow." The vampiress grinned. "Well, it worked, didn't it?" Artemis just rolled her eyes.

"Okay, whatever. Back on topic, what now? You seem to have all the answers here."

Hanshi threw her friend a steely glare. "If you insist... I think we should try to find the other four, and possibly Sky and Kane."

"And how do you propose we do this?" Appollo asked.

"Heading to the center of the city should work. From there we can break into a government building to find them. If nothing, we can wait for someone and try to figure out the problem with your newfound aural attack." Artemis shook her head.

"I don't like it. You two can go that way if you want to, but I'm going to try to sense Sky. I'm not sure why, but I just have this feeling that something big is going on, and when it happens, I'm going to want to be by his side."

"If you must, then by all means," Hanshi replied nonchalantly. "You know how to find us." The two women began to walk away, leaving Artemis alone.

She began to focus, reaching her senses out to find Sky's presence. It was hard to pick through each and every soul in the large city, but she narrowed her mind to souls that existed in the same, awkward fashion as Sky's. That slimmed the pickings down to just a few, and it was easy to identify the swordsman from there. She opened her eyes just a fraction of a second before her figure shimmered away from the street.

Northern Capital- Detention Center

"Does he always do that?" Cloud asked to Eden as they ran to try and keep up with Payne.

Between breaths, Eden replied, "He doesn't... like killing..."

She was stopped when she heard three gunshots ring out. Payne, several strides in front of them, quickly went prone and rolled. He then propped himself up against a wall and fired three shots. A few seconds later, the trio heard the bodies fall to the ground.

"It isn't safe yet," Payne remarked as Eden and Cloud caught up to him. "Where there's one, there's many." He looked at Cloud. "Stay on your guard. Don't let..."

He was abruptly interrupted by a piercing scream from Eden. Cloud screamed something as he pulled his sword form his back and brought it swinging in the air just above Payne's head. There was a sickening sound heard as his blade made contact with its target, and the fiend fell to the ground with a yelp.

"...damnit!" he said. "They're sending fiends?"

Payne ajusted his gun. "Looks like it." He turned to Eden. "Are you... ready?"

Eden moved her hands in front of her as if to clasp a rod. She then moved her arms up, then back down and her rod materialized- a customized Rod of Magic. Eden smiled, pleased that she had finally mastered this spell. Payne only nodded.

"Here they come!" he yelled as he, Cloud, and Eden grouped in a triangular fashion in order to face each corridor. Payne began attacking first, being the only one with a long-range weapon. Firing in bursts, he took out several enemies as they poured out of the corridors. Next to attack was Cloud, yelling as he brought his sword down on several enemies in quick succession.

"Where are they all coming from?" Cloud asked in a brief intermission.

"Who knows," Payne responded. "Most likely they're being summoned by more... advanced members of the guard."

"The guard?"

Payne didn't respond, instead he began firing his weapon again at the second wave of fiends.

"Payne, they're coming!" Eden panicked.

"You can do it," he said without emotion.

The fiend quickly sprung on Eden, attempting to pounce on her. Eden brought her rod up to meet its attack. When they collided, Eden rolled backwards, throwing the fiend on its back. She stood back up quickly and, without hesitation, took a powerful swing at the beast's head. It yelped and fell, unconscious.

"They don't end!" Cloud yelled as he killed off yet another of the swarming fiends.

Payne stopped firing his weapon and turned to Eden, who had just finished off another fiend with the same precision as before. "Eden, do it now."

Eden was startled. "You want me to... in here?"

"It's our only chance to get out. Either do it, or we die."

Yawgmoth suddenly jumped, realizing that he had been in a trance for several minutes. Looking around the outskirts of town where he stood, he realised that everyone had left for the battle. He never remembered it taking this long for him to take control of himself after killing. Apparently his will had been weakened as well as his power. He would still, he thought to himself, be strong enough to kill many a soldier in the battle raging in front of him as long as he didn't let himself go like he desperately wanted to and had always done before. Grimly focused on the task before him, namely the spilling of blood, he threw his cloak about himself and pulled out his sword as he slowly marched toward the battlefield. A stray, and very unfortunate soldier met him on his way and immediately turned his gun on Yawgmoth. Unfazed by the three shots that were emptied into his chest Yawgmoth hoisted his sword high above his right shoulder and brought it down on the soldier, cleaving his head.....

Xadako sees this brutality and closes in. Without saying a word, she gets close to Yawgmoth and starts to sniff his cloak deeply for traces of death. She immediately gets it's strong scent and kneels to him, being careful to keep her attention focused on his actions. She touches his left arm with her hand and goes behind him to caress the other hand. She takes this opportunity to smell closer to his face.
"You reek of death. The smell is stronger than if you killed others. You don't belong here, do you?" she whispers into his ear, as if to prevent a nonexistant person from hearing it. Her hood still covers her face, but silver hair hangs out just beyond the edges of it.
"I have nothing to offer someone as powerful as you but the opportunity to kill without limit. It will undoubtedly build your strength."
She sniffs him again and silently walks towards the heart of the city.

Yawgmoth chases after Xadako, but is quickly drawn into the battle as a group of SOLDIERS engage him. He side-steps the first one, who charges at him with a sword, and buries his sword deep into his back, crushing his spine and ribs. Using the energy he takes in from the dying man's life-force, he holds out his hand and burns the second one alive where he stands. The third SOLDIER, too horror stricken to even move, drops his weapon and is completely helpless as Yawgmoth decapitates him and consumes all three of their souls. Empowered by the sudden rush of energy that comes to him, Yawgmoth catches a sudden glimpse of every aura and soul in the city. Of the many presences however, two in particular stand out, one of the being the warrior known as Sky Strife, and the other being an unfamiliar woman. Sensing that they are both located in the same building, Yawgmoth quickly makes his way there...

Xulin, having watched Yawgmoth and Xadako's encounter from a nearby rooftop, slowly lowers his posture and stalks along the edges of the buildings in the same dirction as Xadako. His height keeps him relatively protected from the melee below, so he proceeds without incident.

Gunapi, who had been following Xadako, walks calmly past where Yawgmoth killed the SOLDIERS, completely unfazed by the gore of the bodies. The only thing that seems to bother her is the thought of getting dirt on her shoes. She walks carefully, without making a sound, in the direction of where Xadako went.

"Why does she always have to leave me behind?" she asks herself, there is a note of humor in her voice, though, as she walks over the decapitated body of one SOLDIER.

Xadako continues to lead her minions to the center of the city. She decapitates several nearby SOLDIERs as they pass, showing no remorse.
"Gunapi, Xunil, pincer them! I'll go head on. You, the demon, follow me. We both need the souls."
Xadako awaits any sort of reaction to her commands, not really expecting anything but enemy confusion.

Xulin finds a position under a low wall and launches two Ice shots toward the men over the wall.
One slams harmlessly to the ground, surrounded by a shallow crater. The other strikes a glancing blow across one SOLDIER's head, knocking him unconscious and splitting his scalp, flooding blood down his face.

Gunapi quickly desposes of one SOLDIER, who thought he could sneak up on her from behind, as she raises her fist. She is glad to hear the satisfying crack of his nasal bones as they send splinters of bone into his skull, killing him immediately. Another SOLDIER comes running at her, she takes the flower from her hair, revealing it to be a short blade that is soon embedded in the SOLDIER's chest. Gunapi runs and reclaims her flower before the dead man can even fall.

She sees that Xunil seems to have most of the SOLDIERs busy, Gunapi tries to continue following Xadako. There's no way that she's going to let Xadako have all the fun while she does all the work, though she does wonder where they're going. She continues to follow the two forms she can see in the distance. She runs quickly, while trying to wipe her bloodied blade on her robes.

"Gunapi, what happened to you and Xulin pincer attacking the enemy? Do you want to die before we accomplish our goal?" Xadako laughs like a domestic hobo and offers her left hand to the other girl.
"I think we can make this work...Xulin! Come over here. No more need to distract them! We're in this together now. Yo, demon boy, come here! You need souls, right?!"
Xadako stares at Yawgmoth, waiting for him to go over to her, "You'll be a valuable asset to us, as well. Symbiosis is such a wonderful thing!"
