Hanshi and Appollo took one long, appraising glance at the approaching Soldiers and gave each other a nod.

"We'll take out these clowns," Appollo said. "They should be easy pickings."

"What about me?"

Hanshi put her hand on her friend's shoulder. "You know what you have to do."

Artemis nodded slowly. "And how am I going to do that? I don't know where it's being generated from."

"Civilians are to be indoors at this time. Leave peacefully or face us," commaded the Soldier in the lead. Appollo just turned her head back a bit.

"We'll be with you in a moment, if you don't mind," she said, as if talking to an indignant customer in line. This seemed to enrage him, much to Appollo's glee. Soaking in her results for a second longer, she turned back to Artemis and smiled. "I love to piss them off."

Hanshi rolled her eyes. "Anyway, you know how to take it down, you just don't want to know." Artemis averted her eyes, ashamed of being scared of what she needed to do. It had to be done. Hanshi made Artemis look into her eyes. "You will do this. Neither Appollo nor myself can. We are not strong like you."

Artemis reluctantly nodded, stepping over the barrier's edge and placing a hand firmly on it. Hanshi smiled, turning to greet the Soldiers.

"Hiya boys. How nice of you to show up for your own deaths."

----------------

Artemis hardly noticed her friends fighting behind her. She was on her knees, concentrating only on the barrier and it's energy, aligning her own with it. Slowly she began to feel light and powerful, like the barrier itself. If she had her eyes open, she would've seen the energy that was the barrier trickling into her body, engulfing her in a fierce green glow.

----------------

A Soldier behind a computer sat tracking the cities energy levels. One suddenly began to drop rapidly - the barrier's. He looked frightened. "Captain, you might want to see this." A burly man approached his underling and glowered at him.

"Well, what?" he asked icily. The Soldier pointed to the barrier's energy reading with a shaky finger.

"There's a huge drain on the barrier in this sector," he said in quivering voice, morioning to a spot on the screen. His superior just glowered more.

"Well, what do you think you should do?" he growled, mocking the Soldier's fear.

"Right, sir, I'll send a group out to scout."

----------------

As the barrier shrunk from the top down, an intense pain began building up throughout her entire being. This was the hard part. More and more energy flowed into her, and more and more pain screamed out every pore. Nearing the end, she felt like screaming, like every inch of her mind, body and soul were being flayed alive. If she could've moved, she would've torn off her flesh in order to release the pain trapped her her dying body.

Finally, as the last of the barrier siphoned into her, and amazing calm passed over her face. Then she collapsed backwards.

----------------

Hanshi and Appollo, nearly done fighting, say Artemis collapse. They left their fights without hesitation to go to her side. Checking her pulse, they found her to be barely alive, but the green glow persisted, actually growing larger by the moment. As if on cue, as it finished growing, extending almost two feet from her body, her eyes shot open.

In one fluid motion, she was up and accessing the area. "What went on?"

"We fought them, and you took down the barrier," Hanshi replied.

Artemis looked confused for a minute, taking in everything before showing a sign of recognition on her glowing face. "Okay, everything's flooding back now." She looked at the straggler Soldiers, crawling to what appeared to be a fresh group on the horizon. "Ooh, some fun for me."

Northern Capital- Outer City

Sky layed motionless under the debris. He felt the newfound strength leave his body, and slowly became aware of how much pain he was in.

What the hell did I do now?

His hands throbbed where they had been cut. He wondered how deep the cut was and if he'd be able to handle his sword again. His mind began to lose its strength next. He felt dizzy, and a darkness developed around him. He opened his eyes and, with very bad tunnel vision, saw a flash of green light.

What... Kind of... nice...

He lost consciousness.

Northern Capital Area

KOS-MOS had walked over to the barrier and had begun running scans on it. She quickly noticed that its energy levels were being depleted at an alarming rate, but were still at deadly levels. Regardless of what she had learned, something possessed her to place her hand on the barrier. There were a few very quick snapping and popping sounds, and the barrier shut down with a flash of bright green light. The pressure from the barrier going offline sent a strong gust of wind onto the battlefield. Soldiers from both sides, blinded by the light and being knocked over by the wind, stopped battle for a moment until they could regain their senses. When the dust settled, the Rebels found the Shinra soldiers... gone. The wind and flying debris had flung their bodies everywhere and they lay, bruised and broken, scattered everywhere.

Just as the barrier went offline, a final beam of energy tried to connect between the towers creating the barrier- going through KOS-MOS. Both this immense shock and the gust of wind, she was blown off of her feet and high into the air. She landed in front of a group of Rebel soldiers, blackened and smoldering.

The captains of the Rebel forces began gathering the remaining troops together and prepared to invade the city with new reconnaissance from a mysterious group of Rebels that had made their way inside the capital. This group claimed to have been gathered by Artemis the Elf, who had been missing for over six months and had been assumed dead. Naturally, the capitans were reluctant to accept this reconnaissance, but when the group said that Artemis was taking down the barrier and the barrier broke, they accepted the group's message- Sky and Cloud were inside the city, being held hostage by Shinra and the Astolorian Government. Fueled by new and reawakened anger as well as the adrenaline of battle, they prepared a counterattack.
