FAQ- RP Do's and Don'ts (Sun Dec 11, 2005 9:05 pm) Quote

In this FAQ, the staff and I will give some basic Do's and Don'ts.

Do...

...be descriptive in your posts.
...take lots of time on each post.
...spellcheck each post.
...be sure to be clear.

Don't...

...post one liners. Even if there is diologue, describe what your character is thinking and/or doing while talking.
...make a post with many spelling/grammatical errors. This makes it difficult for the members to read your post, and therefore halts RP progress. This can be very annoying.
...god-mode. God-moding would consist of the following:
  • Auto-hit posts. (This mostly happens in Advanced RPs). When fighting another member, your attacks cannot automatically hit.
  • "Killing" another character. Again, if you are fighting another member, you cannot decide if they die.
  • Talking for other characters. This is one of the most annoying things that can happen to a Role Player. DO NOT talk for other characters. Chances are you will not portray the character properly, and they may end up doing something they normally would not do.

(Staff, feel free to add to this as needed.)

This one should be pretty obvious, but.......

DON'T try to be the most powerfull person/creature/whatever in existence. Essentially this means you can't be the ultimate god of destruction and chaos(or anything else like that), and you cannot ever absolutely by anymeans have a character who can just kill someone instantly by, say, looking at them or something. Now, it is ok to roleplay things like angels, demons, and fallen gods, just keep in mind that roleplaying powerfull races doesn't give you ultimate power. For instance, if you want to roleplay a god you could say that you were banished to the mortal realm and stripped of your power for interfering in the affairs of mortals(random example, I know I'm stealing from Raided Razz ), you cannot however be a character who is a full-fledged god with the power to kill hundreds with a glance, and here's why.....
With a green flash of light and a cacaphony of maddening noises in your head, Sephiroth appears!
Sephiroth: "Now you die!!"
Sephiroth swings his masamune with unhuman speed right at ____'s temple.
_______ catches Sephiroth's blade in his left hand and breaks it in half, then looks Sephiroth directly in the eyes, he falls to the ground in a heap, all of his limbs broken in thirty-two different place, his brain imploded, and his soul destroyed.
Boring, eh? Yeah, that's why power-players suck.

Also, don't roleplay out of context. Basically this means that in a medieval fantasy RP your character can't use guns and escape on a scate board.

(Addition to Yoth's post Razz)
You can also play godlike creatures, just don't overuse powers. An exception: I RPed as Susano-o (A Japanese god). Even though I had the ebility to kill anyone by ending the world, I rarely used that character except when I absolutely had to. I always had a spare character or three (Ouka, Hien, and Raiden)
