Yes, there's magic... sorry I haven't been saying anything about that. I haven't though about it much. Have you read Eragon and Eldest? It's like in that. If you don't know what I mean, say so and I'll explain it.

I'm not opposed to magic, I just hadn't put a bunch of thought into it yet... I had a basic plan, and it was pretty good, so I didn't talk about it... *suddenly afraid* YOU CAN'T READ MY MIND! YOU CAN'T! YOU CAN'T!! YOU CAAAAANN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, the sci-fi one's "magic" just had more to figure out...

I know. I don't want a ton of magic (I wanted it to be rare-ish, more than in "normal" fantasy) and I hadn't worked on it a lot. That was probably the last you really heard.

Ok, I haven't read Eragon or Eldest, so I have no idea what you mean. The character I had in mind was going to be more of a warrior anyway, matbe a teeny bit of magic, but probaly not even that. Even so, I would like to know what you had in mind for magic.

Basically, the idea is that magic drains your body's energy, and that once you cast a spell, you are forced to follow it through even if it kills you. It is possible, however, to cast spells that are "processes" rather than "absolutes." These can be controlled, you can stop them before they take too much energy, etc... but they aren't as instantanious as "absolutes." Magic is cast using a language, but, unlike Inheritance, this language is totally different than any other. The words are not "heard," but rather "felt"... it's kinda weird. Magic can be spoken by anyone who is magically attuned, and in any language you want. Any questions?

Just one. Do you eventually recover from casting a spell, or is your energy drained permanently?
