| Frost - Jesson's Fortune (M) (Mon Jul 23, 2007 4:24 pm) |
Quote |
|
Not much is known about him. What is known, is but only scraps of information pieced together:
Basic Information
Pseudonym: Frost
Birth-Name: Unknown
Age: Early teens
Race: Half-Dragon [Human/Silver Dragon]
Gender: Male
Class: Illusionist/Spell Weaver
Alignment: Lawful-Neutral
Likes: The company of others, cold places, new foods.
Dislikes: Chaotic characters, heat.
Appearance
Eyes: Sky Blue; no pupil
Hair: A silver frill running down from his head down to the tip of his tail. It fades into a silvery violet near the middle.
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 108tds.
Skin: Light
More Info: Frost being a half-dragon, has a pair of silver wings with two talons (unlike the most other dragons who have one) and, a tail that is only slightly longer from his waist down to the ground. Also being young, he has not yet fully developed his draconic abilities and features, but has ice-white scales which cover him from the head down, including the entirety of his head, body, and tail. The only part not covered is the bottom of his tail, up to his belly, which is instead, covered by a resistant hard-leather. Despite his age, his right arm has grown claws roughly 2 1/2" while his left arm is generally more human-like. Many half-dragons take up melee combat professions because their draconic abilities give them an edge in combat. However some, like Frost, choose to use their draconic abilities to enhance their magical abilities.
Attire/Equipment
Head: Sky-blue mask covering most of his face, including his mouth and nose. A sky-blue hood droops over his head, being part of a robe him wears.
Body: A sky-blue wizard's robe, mostly unadorned, Frost feels it is unnecessary to adorn your clothing, the fact that he is blind may contribute to his opinion (As most silver dragons and those related to silver dragons like beautiful jewelry, clothes, and shiny things in general), but him believes that one should not be judged by their looks. Holes are cut in the back of his robe to allow space for his wings.
Arms: The sleeves of Frost's robe, droops over his hands, being a bit too big for him.
Legs: At the base of the robe, an opening is cut vertically down from the knees down on both sides to allow space for movement and his tail.
Feet: Having scales and resilient leather, Frost has no need for shoes and therefore walks barefooted. Although, it is hard to tell because his robe covers his feet.
Accessories: A plain platinum ring with the character, "水" (Water) embedded in the centre. He wears this ring on his pinky finger.
Weapon of Choice: Tanto coated with an extremely deadly venom of the Brazilian Wandering Spider. Coupled with his illusionary magic, this makes the tanto an ideal weapon of choice for Frost.
Alternate Weapon: Claws, breath ability.
Spells & Abilities
Types of Spells & Abilities
[A]: Ability; not a spell, does not require energy to cast, but still need to be cast.
[Bu]: Buffs; beneficial effects on the target. Frost casts these using illusionary techniques.
[C]: Requires concentration, caster cannot do anything else while casting a spell that requires concentration and, the spell will fail if the caster is disrupted while casting.
[D]: Draconic; an innate ability from the draconic family.
[DB]: Debuffs; negative effects on the target. Frost casts these using illusionary techniques.
[Il]: Illusionary; a spell affecting one's perception of things. Frost's illusionary techniques have been refined by his innate magic sense as a dragon, they include: Visual (Sight), Olfactory (Smell), Gustatory (Taste), Auditory (Hearing), Tactile (Touch), Thermal (Heat), components, the ability to alter one's
nociperception (Pain) and, equilibrioception (Balance, direction).
[P]: Passive ability; does not require energy, nor does it need to be cast. Is something one is born with. e.g., Darkvision.
[SP]: Spellweaving; a type of spell or ability, which either renders magic harmless, or redirects it to another target.
[T]: Trance; a spell that requires the caster to maintain concentration - even after casting it and the spell are in full effect. If a trance is broken, the spell will end.
Illusionary
Auditory: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of hearing.
Gustatory: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of taste.
Olfactory: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of smell.
Tactile: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of touch.
Thermal: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of heat.
Visual: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of sight.
Nociperception: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of pain.
Equilibrioception: Illusionary spells affecting the sense of balance and, direction.
Draconic
Claws:Frost has claws which are more draconic than human.
Frost Breath: Being part silver dragon has many advantages, one of them being the ability to breathe intensely cold air at anyone object, almost immediately freezing it. Unless of course, the target is fire attributed.
Wings: Wings; allow Frost to take flight.
Strengths
Resistance Against Piercing: The scales on Frost's back protect him against piercing weapons (weapons that attack with a thrust), such as spears, tridents, and, bows. However, this protection is only limited where his scales are, the soft belly of a half-dragon is very much exposed to danger from piercing weapons.
Resistance Against Slashing: The scales on Frost's back protect him against slashing weapons (weapons that attack with by slashing), such as swords, axes, and, daggers.
Keen Senses: Frost's senses are greatly heightened to an extent where he has almost no problem "seeing" things by feeling vibrations, listening to sounds, etc. Contributing to this, is his blindness, causing him to practice and refine his other senses in order to compensate, as well as his draconic blood line which genetically gives Frost a better perception of his senses.
Immunity to Cold: Frost by nature has immunity to cold and its effects.
Dragon-Blood Sorcery: Being half dragon gives Frost an advantage when it comes to spellcasting. He has much more raw power to draw from than most other races.
Weaknesses
Blindness: Frost was blind from birth and therefore, he cannot see anything that is either stationary, or in the air.
Weakness to Fire: Being a silver dragon by nature, Frost is weak to fire. One will find that a well aimed fire spell or enchanted weapon will easily cut through Frost's natural armor.
Arrogance: Being part dragon, a creature who's strength, magical abilities, and intelligence is generally superior to that of humans, Frost tends to forget he is part human himself. This leads him to wrongfully underestimate his opponents and take unnecessary blows.
Incompetent Fighter: Being not only blind, but a spellcaster, Frost tries his best to avoid melee combat. He knows naught about fighting except that his scales are hard and, that his claws are sharp.
History
Frost is a half-breed of humans, and metallic dragons. This means he has been looked upon as an oddity. For the entirety of his life, Frost has lived in the shadows as a mercenary-for-hire and has gained substantial fame for doing so. His interests as a mercenary lie not in the fame nor wealth however, but rather in connections. Frost has come to know the power of connections well, as did his parents at the time of their, untimely death.
Frost was still just a child, trying to surpass his older brother in any was possible. It was so infuriating that someone else in the family had all the glamour and praise from "his" parents. He was smart, brave, strong, and literally, everything everyone ever wanted to be, but in one person. Heh, Frost couldn't have been more wrong.
It was one sunday afternoon, a very particular afternoon, where suddenly, Frost's older brother defected against his own kin, slaying everyone in his path. He had dabbled, in the dark arts, and using them, to gain connections with certain "contractors" he was able to amass a small elite army to help him win the battle. Frost stood silently in terror, not knowing what to do. His entire village had been slain, and only he was left standing. It was as if it was on purpose to cause him a suffering worse than death.
"B-R-O-T-H-E-R! W-H-Y-Y-Y-Y!?"
"When the time comes, you will understand little brother. Happy birthday..."
---
Here is a piece of Frost's journal that one lucky traveller managed to scavenge from the forests that border Lutsk, the grand city of trades.
Tuesday, April 17th:
The trumpets have sounded, the time has come. What was once a flame has sparked into a raging inferno. Elven archers blot out the sun with their arrows and the battle cry of dwarven warriors storm the city gates. The Siege on Lutsk has begun.
I can feel it, the tension in the air, it's like an invisible force is pushing down on you, holding you back, but nothing is stopping me. I was assigned to accompany a small offensive squad of several elite assassins by my contractor; man, this is really troublesome, I better be paid fittingly.
"Frost, we've reached checkpoint, but it's late at night and the battles have ceased for the night. My men are already setting up camp, you should do the same."
"I am fine out here; I do not like cramped spaces anyway."
That is where it ends today; tomorrow I will be leading this squad into enemy lands to assassinate one hell of a captain. I do not know his name, but only that the folk call him "The Thunderer" because of his enchanted war hammer. It has electrical properties and "Thunder" here, loves using it to make giant shockwaves and send our troops flying into walls, crates, and who knows what. But hooray, hooray, I've been enlisted here to take care of that problem, only the minor details remain now.
...ha-ha, what kind of guy is named, "Thunderer".
Notes
After using this character to RP on a different forum... that is, different RP, I came to realize that his build is a little bit confusing and perhaps hard to grasp, I hope this section clears up a few things:
I don't want to give anything away, but my character, Frost, works in mysterious ways, he is a half-dragon illusionist, spell weaver, unfortunate guy who had his brother murder his clan, and a guy who wears funny clothes... that is, oddly coloured I suppose, and I don't want to give anything away. So before you say the guards suddenly lost their heads, Frost did no such thing, and even if he did so, he would definitely use an illusionary spell to make it seem not so. Otherwise, his bargain with the commander would not go as well as Frost would have liked.
Do keep in mind Frost can easily conceal himself and slip past defences... heck, he could give the guard a hug, and the guard would only notice the wrinkles on his shirt move, in which case Frost could also cast a spell for that, although it'd be quite meticulous to do so, which is why Frost doesn't go around hugging the guards.
So in essence, some might think my character is a little bit over-powered, I mean, a guy who can make it seem like he can do anything and the characters are almost always completely fooled? I understand that much, but then again, you're missing Frost's weakness. When one enters a fight, you have to consider two things of an opponent: The mental one, being skill; and the physical one, being raw power. What makes Frost interesting, is that he is a type of character who has completely mastered one component in battle, while not even close at being competent in his physical component, and therefore to fight him, you have to take advantage of that. If you don't, Frost could easily kill you with a toothpick, slowly scraping your skin cells until you... nevermind.
So what do I mean by him having a mental component but not a physical component? Let's say we are in a fight, I am Frost, and you are a brave warrior with a nice longsword and nothing else, We're are on opposite sides of a bridge. Obviously, I have to cross the bridge, to attack you, and as do you. Now here is where Frost's skill comes into play, he knows that if you see him cross the bridge, he will easily be stopped, and therefore he needs to cross the bridge while making it oblivious to you that he's doing so. This is done using illusionary spells. Again, Frost makes it seem like he's not moving (completely, Frost can control all sanes including, the 5 normal human senses, pain and balance.) and makes his way up the bridge, no doubt with a poisoned dagger (tanto) drawn. And of course, Frost would not have his illusionary copy do absolutely nothing, expecting you to wait while he crosses the bridge to stab you, this is where his skill comes into play; Frost has many options from this point, but in the end, he just has to stall time. He has to make you think about other things, other than the fight at hand. He wants to make it seem like you have control, so that you are more susceptible to his sneak attack. ( Oh man I just relaised I have been switching in and out of 1st and third person haha... excuse me, but I'm too lazy to change it... I already started changing it half-way for some reason.) So anywho, I have to distract you, what I could do is offer you some than entices your interest, say, you need Mango Pudding to save your mom, and I just happen to have some. Meaning, if you will surrender the fight, you can have some mango pudding to save your mom.
Here is the major flaw in your character's skill, and most other people in this world today (Yes, Frost's abilities were inspired by real life on-goings.) you immediately start to think about the legitimacy of my claim. Do I really have the mango pudding? Will I keep up my end of the bargain? What if I'm lying? Are there any signs that I could by lying or telling the truth? How do I make the best out of my next move? When in reality, you should be putting yourself in my position and asking yourself, "What does Frost want to do most right now?"
The answer to that question is of course, "Frost wants to win", so if I want to win, "How does Frost win?" of course another simple question, the answer is, "Kill me... !@#$, that's a problem." So now of course, "How do I stop him from killing me?" well... considering there is only one way to get to where you are, and it's a stupid thin narrow bridge, the answer to that last question would be "block the entrance to that bridge." Uh... duh? You could simply randomly swing your sword in front of the bridge and I would not be able to even come close, because I lack the second half of a fighter, the physical component. Of course, a wizard's physical component is his/her ability to rain fire down on whomever using his mind... but still, it's physical.
So to win against Frost, you have to think outside the lines, do not be tricked, and win in a battle of will. It all comes down to asking the simplest questions to get everyone started, but there is one important twist in my character that you should come to understand-Frost is lawful neutral. This means Frost is neither swayed by the desire to do good, nor bad, but is drawn to fulfilling what he has obliged to do. This means Frost is an honest trickster, not a liar, there is a big difference between the two that you should come to understand.

Nice character sheet. Do you know what RP you plan on using it in? It seems like it's been designed for a new RP, which is cool if you plan on making one. =)
Either way, Approved.

Actually, I don't really know =[. I was looking for a sort of medieval war between good and evil in some big castle, and there will be like a beautiful princess in need of rescue, and then I'll be hired by the bad guys, overcome obstacles, defect and save the princess and then it's like, the end maaaaaaaaan. D: But srsly, a fantasy/medieval war type RP... x-x; I hope that was too... -ishy.

I think a new RP would be best suited, but (depending on Kane's ideas for it) it might fit into Jesson's Fortune.

Yeah, I looked into that RP. already PM'd him asking for permission to RP in it. Actually, do I even need permission? OR does my character just have to be approved by staff? still a little bit confused about that... so I'm afraid to post xD

You don't have to get permission from the RP creator unless there was a sign up sheet of sorts (and we only have one RP like that currently, and it's special in its own right). Once your character is approved (which it has been), you can just go ahead and post in the RP. I'd read the whole thread first, though, but that's kind of a given. =P

Unless there is something conflicting with the RP in your sheet, of course...
Like you wouldn't want to put a Area 51-style alien in classical, Tolkien-style fantasy world...

Huzzah!
Yes, great character. And yes, Jesson's Fortune is an open RP, so once your char is approved, you can post.
Glad to have you!

I'm assuming you're using this in Jesson's Fortune, so I've added it to the thread title. =)

You could do that or add the different RPs to the topic description or title. It's just kind of nice to see what RP the character sheet is for if you're looking for one really quick.

Indeed, the notes section is very borderline. I will let Kane look at this and decide for himself because it is his RP. Drop him a PM if he forgets. I will PM him now and have him look at the changes. =)

I have to say, that is a little too powerful. I understand that your character's main flaws are his physical abilities, but to have absolutely perfect mental abilities is too much.
Also, in your notes, you tell people to remember that your character is lawful neutral. The flaw with that is that the characters in the RP don't know that. Considering that the characters, not the people playing them, don't know all this information, it does make him too powerful.
You have to remember, you can't use metagame thinking. You have to think and act as your character would act.
